Scotsman by birth, doctor by destiny, and a technologist by choice, Euan has pursued an integrative career that merges medicine and data, and is a pioneer in the effort to wring clinical value from genomic information.
In 2010, Euan led the team that carried out the first clinical interpretation of a human genome. The paper published in the Lancet was the focus of over 300 news stories, became one of the most cited articles in clinical medicine that year, and was featured in the Genome Exhibition at the Smithsonian in DC.
Euan is an investigator with the NIH’s Undiagnosed Diseases Network and co-chairs the national steering committee. He’s also Principal Investigator of the MyHeart Counts study, launched in collaboration with Apple in 2015, and leads the ELITE study, that aims to sequence the fittest people on the planet to identify the genetic determinants of human athletic performance.
